Tom Lee and Cathie Wood believe investors may be misreading the biggest forces shaping Bitcoin, Ethereum, and the global economy.
While headlines remain focused on government debt, inflation, interest rates, and fears of another crypto downturn, both see a very different setup developing underneath the surface.
In this video, Cathie Wood explains why the $40 trillion US debt figure may not tell the full story.
Her argument is that debt should not be viewed in isolation. The ability of the economy to support that debt also depends on productivity, asset growth, technological innovation, and wealth creation. Wood believes breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, robotics, energy, blockchain, and other technologies could dramatically increase economic productivity over the coming years.
That is also why she expects inflation to eventually move lower.
Wood sees technology as fundamentally deflationary because innovation reduces the cost of producing goods and services. She also believes long-term changes in energy markets could eventually put downward pressure on oil prices.
If economic growth accelerates while inflation falls, that could create a very different environment for scarce assets such as Bitcoin.
Wood remains highly bullish on Bitcoin and sees its improving performance relative to gold as an important signal. She describes Bitcoin as a technology revolution, a new global monetary system, and an entirely new asset class with significant room for adoption.
